3/4

I've had a kinda wordy (by 'wordy' I obv mean involving more than one paragraph and a lower ratio of acronyms to legit words than I'm generally comfortable with) post in my drafts for a while now and it's become something of a millstone around my neck. So I just thought, you know what m8, just post some pictures, just go for it. Here is some work in progress from my zine about the Scottish third division, due to appear imminently.

SIX EIGHT KAFE

I drew on these stickers for a project Craig at Birmingham's SIX EIGHT KAFE came up with, involving illustrators and designers creating self-promotional labels to spice up the cafe's takeaway coffee cups. I like the idea of each cup being matched to a customer.

NO WAISLEY!

I have two pieces (below) in the Scottish Drawing Competition exhibition at Paisley Museum (above) right now. You should read about the PAISLEY WITCHES. Christian Shaw is a cool name for a 17th century 11 year old girl.

HOME GROUND

I did this drawing of a TYPICAL SCOTTISH SCENE the other day to test my patience. I guess I'd send to it my Grannie in her Heilan' hame if she were still able to see.

As an additional special treat I thought I'd share a little more of my STREET VIEW GLITCH collection. They don't seem to happen much anymore - since Chrome perhaps? The most post-post-post-everything front garden in the world/Edinburgh and a man possibly stealing apples from his neighbour are also in there too.

RELEVANT THINGS I'VE CONSUMED: everything SINCERELY YOURS / THE DECLINE AND FALL OF THE SPECTACLE-COMMODITY ECONOMY by GUY DEBORD / THE LIVING DEAD: THE ATTIC by ADAM CURTIS / SCHOOLIN' LIFE by BEYONCE / THIS INSTALLATION - who's it by? / HOME GROUND: SANCTUARY IN THE CITY by DAN PEARSON (I read a couple of pages before I sleep).

7 DRAWINGS LATER

I've been taking part in 28 DRAWINGS LATER to shame myself into drawing every day, and here's my first week's efforts: from life, the tv guide and Street View of course. I promised myself I'd post one from every day no matter how grossed out I am by them (WON'T MENTION ANY NAMES DAY TWO). Expect vast improvements in the next batch - I always forget how quickly your drawing fitness levels can go up or down.

NOONE LIKES US WE DON'T CARE

for good measure, a couple more of my own research drawings for my ongoing footie (and fishing) project, the end of which is mercifully in sight.

JOCKUM ITCH

i only became consciously aware of JOCKUM NORDSTROM relatively recently but his influence is pretty apparent in a lot of contemporary illustration (which isn't to say he isn't contemporary, just that he's been around a bit longer than my peers). it all looks so simple to emulate but it ain't. he has a super sense of composition and manages to reach that dream place in between a bit twee and overwrought, and cold, stylish and empty. as is apparent from the times i've half-heartedly attempted to use similar techniques in the past, there's a lot to learn.

here's a video of him what a ledge I WANT TO BE HIM
