GLITCH TWITCH

When my pal RICKY ~tweeted about 9 EYES, a blog of incredible images from Google Street View (check out the accompanying essay), I had that familiar sensation of simultaneously being delighted by it and flying into a rage at myself for not having done it first. I know Google Art Project is what's hot right now (have no reason at all to leave the house now) but I'm hopelessly and pathetically addicted to exploring Street View - I guess you could call it virtual psychogeography or something if you felt like being a dick - and for a while I've been grabbing images of the glitches that appear intermittently, like a glimpse of the underlying matrix. I like when they're juxtaposed with chocolate box country cottages.

Δ † Δ † Δ † Δ † Δ † Δ †Δ

After a recent excursion to the now crumbling and spooky Gillespie Kidd & Coia ST PETER'S SEMINARY, I was inspired to check out some churches. I'm an atheist natch but one of the things I miss about high school is our visit to church at the end of each term, even though I hated on having to endure Xtian services and assemblies in a nominally non-denominational school. Churches are kind of unusual in being smallish community buildings that aren't primarily about mundane functionalism - they're interesting because the architects are trying to express an abstract concept. Our local church was a typical Glasgow red sandstone Edwardian with a pleasingly austere white interior, but my faves are 'modern' (THAT CHURCH is the main reason I like The Graduate). Here's some UK church ~porn~; I love how incongruous a lot of these look in their surroundings, and the way pedestrian additions like the 'Jesus is Alive' banner and street signs jar with the purity of the architecture.

WURST BRATS

here are some lairy disposable tourist shots from berlin a couple of months ago. we ate a lot of currywurst and chips and saw lots of good stuff too - among the illustration/graphics-related highlights were the MOTTO and DO YOU READ ME? shops (would defo like to return to them when i'm (hypothetically) not destitute).

ps if you fancy any featured pals, they're all talented illustrators and graphic designers probably in imminent need of employment. jus sayin.

2 THOUSAND AND DINNAE KEN

happy new year you guys! christmas already feels like 28372398 years ago, even though as ever i insisted on keeping the decorations up til the bitter end. to kick off 2 thousand and 10 (try as i might i can't think of anything dead funny and life-affirming that rhymes with this other than men) on a suitably illustrative note, here are a couple of my favourite cards i received from talented pals (lol as if this petite selection isn't at least half the sum total of cards i received).

and i'm even including my one

my favourite crystal-growing magic tree and a card from KIRSTIN

housem8 the gr8 ELLA's effort. she is also seen here posing with some of the appalling/super decorations we made for the camberwell christmas fair (i crafted that pendant for her!!):
