i did THE SWIM, and defo didn't wear a wetsuit because i'm a man, and it was fun. the weather in bournemouth was a dream, even though me and my pal amy's fetching british heart foundation swimming caps resulted in tan/burn lines that resembled different flavours of supermarket teddybear face processed meat. thanks donors!



YCN are doing an awesome 'world cup moments' mural at the moment (above photos from their FLICKR: pat bradbury, dan woodger, paul layzell, joe baglow.) love the way it's looking and am excited to say i'll be watching probably my first entire football match since i was a pre-teen - germany vs argentina on saturday - then contributing.

finally, a couple of nice mentions: katie asked me some questions for NOTHING BAD, and CONCRETE HERMIT have done a roundup of the camberwell degree show. don't know how i managed to miss karin soderquist's work but i'm gonna investigate it asap. incidentally i'm certain anyone reading this is as sick of those ballard collages as i am but DON'T WORRY, i'll be updating with loads of new stuff soon. NOT LONG NOW TIL SAVE OUR SOULS!!!!!!!!

SAVE OUR SOULS, the site showcasing our class's work in the run-up to our external degree show (oh my god), has gone live and is looking super, largely thanks to the indomitable JORDAN and BRYONY. we're updating the blog a lot so add it to your reader for regular hot camberwell illustration gossip and attractive drawings. aw yeah!!!! there's also a trendy shop so why not TREAT YOURSELF and help us make some $$$$$$$$.

in other news, popular se5 comedienne jenny eclair is definitely stalking me. i was behind her in the queue at the parcel office in camberwell the other week (the name on her slip was JENNY ECLAIR), then the other day i bumped into her coming out of the bauhaus museum in berlin. seriously now, what are the chances of this?

BRUTALITARIANISM

these are some photos i took last winter around the aylesbury estate (the one on the channel 4 thing), which is due for demolition. i find its scale quite compelling, though as a middle class white boy art student it's too easy to romanticise these places. burgess park (first picture), with its roads to nowhere and huge expanse of nothing, is also a favourite of mine as an antidote to all the (delightful but) predictable victorian, shrubbery-laden parks in SE london. i wonder what it'll be like when boris has ejaculated his £2 million on it.

(not) changing (that much) rooms

last year i moved into a grubby magnolia box room that was unfurnished apart from a divan, two drawing pins and a few stray pubes. my lack of initiative meant that i lived in squalor for the earlier part of my stay above foneworld, which culminated in the sub-how clean is your house scenes (what's more embarrassing, my discarded scants or that libertines single?) pictured above. anyway, then i decided to paint the walls white, set up an old decorating table my housemate had left over from an exhibition, put my clothes in a cupboard on the landing instead of the floor, realised that i could improve the layout by putting the bed next to the window and that the increase in noise from one of South London’s noisiest junctions, full of winos, drugs and weapons (lol lol lol) was marginal. sadly i didn't take any nicely staged photos of the stunning end result (i even had a petunia in there at one point) without a DELL on show for starters but still, l@@k, it's not as gross!
